Space Project

Vincent Fournier conducted his ‘Space Project’ between 2007 and 2017. It included the space stations and research facilities focusing on space exploration all around the world.

Fournier was fascinated by machines which tries to make sense of the world & universe we live in, and this project conveys his own perspective of those machinery & the environments they create in search for answers.

Space is supposed to be an utopia, a promise and a success. Yet similar to the “2001: A Space Odyssey” aesthetic, his photographs present a cold, sterile world which doesn’t look promising or fertile.

This project’s frame makes us think about the decision between sustaining the life of the Earth and the life of our own, because even though they both seem like the same ideal, they aren’t. In pursuit of sustaining human life, looking for a new space for it would rip the soul of the one we already have.

Fournier’s works generally create an ambiguous futuristic depiction between fantasy and reality.
